- Day 1 – Individual arrival in Donauwörth/Wörnitzstein
Your cycling holiday in Germany begins in Donauwörth along the ‘Romantic Road’. Here, where the former trade route to Nürnberg crosses the River Danube and the Augsburg merchant family Fugger also worked. The former importance and wealth of the city can still be seen today in the magnificent town houses that you can admire on this bike tour along the Danube. Example of hotel: Landgasthof Schmidbaur in Wörnitzstein - Day 2 – From Donauwörth/Wörnitzstein to Ingolstadt, approx. 65 km
Today your bike tour in Germany continues on well-maintained cycle paths through the foothills of the Franconian Alb to Neuburg. A stroll through the old town and a visit to the castle are recommended before you continue cycling to today’s stage destination Ingolstadt. Ingolstadt is an important place for all beer lovers, as it was here that the purity law for brewing beer was enacted in 1516. Enjoy the quality of the old Bavarian art of brewing by stopping in a beer garden. Example of hotel: Altstadthotel in Ingolstadt - Day 3 – From Ingolstadt to Abensberg/Bad Gögging, approx. 40 km
You cycle through the Donau-Auen, mostly along the river, to Bad Gögging. From here it is only a few kilometers to Abensberg. The small town has a lovingly renovated historic old town. Don’t miss the beer garden of the Hundertwasser brewery Kuchlbauer! Example of hotel: Altstadthotel Kneitinger in Abensberg - Day 4 – From Abensberg/Bad Gögging to Regensburg, approx. 55 km + boat trip
You cycle along the Abens and then the Danube to Weltenburg Monastery, where a very special natural spectacle awaits you: the Danube Gorge, where the Danube has dug its way through a massive Jura rock. Be sure to strengthen yourself in the beer garden of the monastery before you take the ship through the Danube Gorge to Kelheim and from there on to Regensburg. Example of hotel: Hotel Münchner Hof in Regensburg - Day 5 – From Regensburg to Straubing, approx. 55 km
The River Danube runs in large loops through the wide countryside. An Eldorado for cyclists, because without ascents you cross today the Gäuboden, one of the most fertile areas of Germany. Endless fields, idyllic villages and small churches are the special features of this rural cultural landscape. Before you cycle to today’s stage town, the pretty Straubing, you will have the opportunity to climb up to the Valhalla. Example of hotel: Hotel Theresientor in Straubing - Day 6 – From Straubing to Deggendorf, approx. 40 km
The penultimate stage of your bike tour in Bavaria takes you through pretty little Lower Bavarian towns, such as Pfelling and Mariaposching. Your destination today is Deggendorf. Here in eastern Bavaria begins the Bavarian Forest National Park, one of the last primeval forests in Europe. Example of hotel: Hotel-Gasthof Höttl in Deggendorf - Day 7 – From Deggendorf to Passau, approx. 55 km
In the morning you will cycle via the small town of Vilshofen and soon reach your destination and the highlight of your bike tour in Bavaria, the three-river city and former bishop’s residence Passau. Enjoy after cycling an extended stroll through the old town. Example of hotel: Hotel Residenz in Passau - Day 8 – Individual departure or extra nights
