Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Grein / Surroundings
Grein has always been known as the "Pearl of the Strudengau". It was regarded as the last safe mooring point for ships before the dangerous Struden (whirlpools) of the Strudengau. Indeed, ships were often even unloaded here before they made their way through the danger spots. This history has made Grein the enchanting town it is today.
Day 2
Grein / Surroundings → Wachau ≈ 50–60 km
The Danube valley narrows to reveal the fascinating spots of the Strudengau. The blue Danube can be admired particularly well from Maria Taferl. From here it is only a few kilometres to the Wachau. The name alone is enough to make your mouth water! As colourful as the Wachau's surroundings are, the region's tasty natural products — such as apricots and apples — are just as diverse. The Wachau offers delicious regional cuisine at the highest level.
Day 3
Wachau → Traismauer / Surroundings ≈ 60 km
Melk — the gateway to the Wachau! A visit to the monumental Benedictine monastery is almost a must. You can expect varied landscapes, lovely vineyards and wide plains! Today you cycle past the 1,000-year-old town of Krems to Traismauer, the gateway to the heart of Lower Austria.
Day 4
Traismauer / Surroundings → Vienna ≈ 65 km
Your last cycling stage to Vienna begins. The feeling is simply overwhelming as you cycle the last few kilometres across the Danube Island to the end of your journey, the capital of Austria. A visit to the Vienna Prater and probably the most famous Ferris wheel in the world awaits at the end. But a stroll through Mariahilfer Straße, a visit to one of the many coffee houses, and some time at Schönbrunn Zoo would also be wonderful. Vienna itself is one big highlight!
