You can choose to start the tour in Passau or Schärding. In the Bavarian city on the three rivers, explore the charming old town and take a look at the cathedral organ. After cycling through the dramatic Schlögener Schlinge river bend, you reach Linz where art meets industry and traditional architecture meets modernity.

Continue via Grein with Austria's oldest theatre, past Maria Taferl and Melk Abbey, into the enchanting Wachau wine region. Pass through wine towns like Spitz and Weißenkirchen, past the Dürnstein Castle ruin, before arriving in Vienna.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Schärding / Passau
Stroll through the pretty little baroque town of Schärding and marvel at the famous Silberzeile lane. Alternatively take a walk through the “New Centre” of Passau, the town of three rivers, redesigned as a pedestrian, car-free area.
Day 2
Schärding / Passau → Schlögener Schlinge (River Bend) ≈ 40–55 km
Cycle along the Inn to Passau and continue on the Danube past Obernzell to Engelhartszell (Austria’s only Trappist monastery). Through the Donauleiten nature reserve you reach the Schlögener Schlinge — a dramatic 180° river bend — and cross by ferry to your hotel.
Day 3
Schlögener Schlinge (River Bend) → Linz ≈ 55 km
Ride through the green Eferdinger basin via Aschach, Ottensheim and Wilhering to Linz. Explore the historic old town, enjoy views from the Pöstlingberg, or stroll along the Donaulände.
Day 4
Linz → Grein / Surroundings ≈ 55 km
Detour to St. Florian (Augustinian monastery) and continue to Enns. Visit the town square with its 60-metre tower (Austria’s oldest town), then return to the Danube and reach the baroque town of Grein (theatre, maritime museum, or Greinburg Castle).
Day 5
Grein / Surroundings → Wachau ≈ 50–60 km
Cycle the Strudengau section and pass Maria Taferl high above the Danube with its famous pilgrimage church and views. A good stop is Melk to see the impressive Melk Abbey overlooking the river.
Day 6
Wachau → Krems / Traismauer / Tulln ≈ 40–75 km
Enjoy the Wachau’s orchards and vineyards and pass wine towns like Spitz and Weißenkirchen, as well as the Dürnstein Castle ruin. Today includes an organised wine tasting in the Wachau region.
Day 7
Krems / Traismauer / Tulln → Vienna ≈ 45–75 km
A relaxed ride to Vienna (depending on the variant, part of the stage is covered by train). Check in and enjoy Vienna’s coffee houses, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Mariahilfer Strasse, or a classic Fiaker cab ride.
